Phoenix; Wolfgang Amadeus
[Album Review]

The first time I heard "Fences" I was sold on these amazing Frenchmen.
This is their fifth album, they are seasone musicians and this album has garnered
critical acclaim and commercial success (you've heard their song "1901" in Cadillac
commercials I'm sure). With catchy songs like "Lasso" and "Rome" you can't really
go wrong on this record. It's feel good indie music. I love this record, mucho.

"Dis Dat New Outkast"

If Antwan Andre "Big Boi" Patton has his way, 2010 will be a busy year for he and Outkast mate Andre "3000" Benjamin -- collectively and apart.
After leaking tracks for more than a year and a half, Big Boi has just turned in his new solo album, "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty." He tells Billboard.com it will be the first of a batch of new music from the Atlanta duo. "This is all in the next year or so," Big Boi says, "starting with my album coming at the top of the year, Dre 3000 right after me...and when the solo albums come out, depending on how the fans support them, then we're gonna give them the Outkast album."
Big Boi did not predict whether Outkast will play any live dates in 2010, but he does plan to hit the road in support of "Sir Lucious...," which he's already started to do with a spot on this year's Rock The Bells tour and some sporadic, "high-powered funk energy extravaganza" solo shows in the fall and winter. The rapper has also given fans a generous taste of the music he's been working on for nearly three years via several leaked tracks: Royal Flush," which features Andre 3000 and Raekwon; "Sumthin's Gotta Give" with Mary J. Blige; "Dubbz"; "Fo Yo Sorrows" with George Clinton and Too $hort; and most recently, "Shine Blockas" with Gucci Mane.
"It's almost like giving them a little sampler from the album and showing how diverse it is," explains Big Boi, who also worked with T.I., Lil Jon, Jamie Foxx and newcomer B.o.B. on the album. "Every song that I put out sounds totally different from the previous songs I put out. I slow-cooked this album and, man, I'm just so happy it's about to come out. I cannot wait to give it to the fans."
Several release dates have been mentioned during the past year for "Sir Lucious...," but Big Boi says he wanted to make sure that both the creative and business aspects of the album were in sync before putting it out.
"There's been a lot of stops and stars with this project," he acknowledges. "I've just been trying to make sure we've got the right avenues and the right brains and mindsets together to get the marketing and promoting behind it. When you work on something for, like, two years and 11 months, it's like your baby. You want to make sure that everybody has taken the project the way they're supposed to be taking it and the set-up is right."
Besides "Sir Lucious...," Big Boi also guested on the Gucci Mane track "She's Got a Friend" with Juelz Santana, did a remix of Mariah Carey's "H.A.T.E.U." and worked on tracks for Janelle Monae's next album.

Album Review: Mr. Hudson [Straight No Chaser]

Mr. Hudson's mellow brand of British R&B is seductive with an alternative indie twist.
I've boiled him down to a simple formula. Take equal parts of Coldplay's Chris Martin
and John Legend, let it simmer and add several cups of Kanye's ingenuity and a bit of
Sting for measure. The title track is pretty hard, I love "White Lies" (the video is incredible!).
"There Will Be Tears" is very sullen but it's definitely one of my personal favorites
from this record. I also thoroughly enjoy "Knew We Were Trouble" & "Supernova".
I'd also recommend "Instant Messenger". Mr. Hudson is a tremendous talent and I like
what he brings to music. Overall the album is a little melancholy but we all need a bit of
that every now and then. I give it a B.

Graffiti [Album Review]

"So yeah... Chris Brown... Yeah..."
I chose to withhold my comments on his whole "situation" officially thus no "Chri-Anna" posts.
I honestly thought that releasing an album so soon after his "situation" was career suicide.
The jury is still out on that. All media madness aside, this record is his best.
He can sing, dance and WRITE songs.
Beats) is a pulse pounding, high energy dance hit. I didn't like it at all when I first heard it.
I think that was solely based on the fact that I didn't think Chris Brown should've released a
single. All that aside, after a few days I started listening to it in secret. The beat is sick and it's
a hot song. Then I saw the video which was a pretty decent clip (I don't like plain white sets).
If I did a track by track analysis I feel like I'd repeat myself a bit much so I'll
only highlight the songs that I REALLY like, because I like them all for the most part.
"Crawl" is the second single (I'm assuming). Its a nice ballad. One could argue it
references a potential reconciliation between him and his famous ex-girlfriend.
He sings well, it's arranged well with poignant lyrics. "So Cold" a mid-tempo-
post-break-up-ballad. Again, it's probably about you know who but I don't really
care because it's a really beautiful song. "What I Do" is a hype club banger featuring
Plies, it's all about financial excess and being cocky about it. It's the trend so I expected it.
The track is crazy! The chorus is catchy (I think it has a lot to do with the layered vocals).
Plies' rap could've been omitted, honestly (it doesn't make or break the song).
"Famous" produced by [chaseology.com favorite] Ryan Leslie. It's my favorite track.
The lyrics are clever, referencing other artists recent hits. It's a definite "read".
I think that's why I love it so much. "I.Y.A." has an international pop sound, I.Y.A.
(In Your Arms) is a love song for the dancefloor. I like to hear him on tracks like this,
I enjoy when he ventures off from an exlusively urban sound. "Pass Out" features
international pop singer Eva Simons (some called her a combination Lady Gage +
Rihanna, I don't know enough about her music to make that assertion). This song is
very electro-dance-pop. I like it because it stands out. "Lucky Me" is about the duality
of fame, it's like his version of the Britney Spears song with the similar title. It's one of
those artist songs, it reflects their internal struggles so fans see them as human, LOL.
"Fallin Down" it about the price of his celebrity, the way he sings the first verse makes
me think he was channeling Michael Jackson (it's all in the cadence), you'll see what I mean.
I'm in love with the track itself, it was produced by Charlie Bereal, I'll be looking him up.
"I'll Go" another ballad, it transitions back and forth from piano to guitar. It's sweet.
I'm not done, the bonus tracks are dope too. "Chase Our Love" is my favorite of all the
bonus tracks, and NOT just because my name is in the title. "I Love U" produced by
Polow Da Don, featuring Esther Dean is hot and "For Ur Love" is also a must listen.
Grafitti is a superb record. I support his work he produces quality material.
